  13. in my opinion theirs a difference between were your from and were your decent is from as parents, grandparents etc. i do know what you meant by saying welbeck is from ghana though dont get me wrong, im just saying rooney and owen and welbeck are realistically all from england and they parents are from other countries

  14. hammy leeds i completely agree with every single bit of information you said, people would not play for their birth country if they know they cant get international football there, its so sad to be honest, playing for nation shud be about pride and happy to represent where your were born and raised not to turn your back on your country so you can say you played international football by playing for another country which you are eligible to play for due to relation in family. its so sad

  15. That’s what it’s all about, no pride in where they come from. Players that drift off to other countries because they aren’t good enough to get into the birth countries team are looking an easy way to play international football. Those that could get into their national squad but choose another country is blatant disrespectful and shows a lack of pride. Many people in north/south Ireland believe that Northern Ireland isn’t a country so they play for the republic and won’t sing god save the queen.

  16. What suprises me is the lack of national pride if that is the case. If I was a footballer I could play for England Ireland or Australia, but England has been the country i have been brought up in and England has been the country I support. I couldn’t imagine ditching my national pride to play for a second nation, if NI players do that then shame on them….and they are cocks, lol

  20. As far as the northern Ireland comment, The good Friday agreement means that people in Northern Ireland can hold both a British and Irish passport. Meaning that players from Northern Ireland can play for the republic but players from the republic can’t play for Northern Ireland. It’s a 1 way trap door that’s effecting Northern Ireland football. Yes they are crap but what chance do you have when all your players are getting took under your eyes and there’s nothing you can do to stop it.

  21. thats all very well but it’s different when these players play for their birth country up to under 21 level. They take the finances of their birth country and take all the help from the coaches and staff that are helping them develop into a player that will be able to break into the full international team. When it comes to the stage where them become selected they fail to turn up and go and play for another country because of some far distant relation.

  22. These are players with Irish heritage, and so they have a choice of whether to play for Ireland or their ‘other’ nationality. They choose Ireland because either they can’t get into their other team, or their other team is shite (i.e. Northern Ireland)

  23. @Hammyleeds Michael Owen is Welsh, Danny Welbeck is from Ghana, Wayne Rooney is Irish (look at the head on him) etc.
