CROATIA EARN FIRST EURO POINT

Croatia earned their first point at the Euro 2020 tournament after coming from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against leaders Czech Republic in Group D. They had to get something out of the game against the Czechs after losing their first match in the group against the Three Lions of England.

England met Croatia in the opening game in the group at the Wembley Stadium at the weekend with the Three Lions running out winners by the odd goal.Croatia lost the game 1-0 thanks to the strike from Raheem Sterling in the second half. The result meant that the 2018 World Cup finalistsneed to get something out of the game against Czech Republic ahead of their final group game with Scotland and they did just that.

Czech Republic took a controversial lead towards the end of the first half after Zenit St. Petersburg defender DejanLovren was adjudged to have fouled Patrik Schick in the box. AS Roma striker Schick picked himself up to score the resulting and move ahead of the likes of RomeluLukaku of Belgium, Italian striker Ciro Immobile, Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal, Italian midfielder Manuel Locatelli and Dutch player Denzel Dumfries who are all on two goals at the top of the scoring chart for the tournament. Schick has now scored three goals in two games. His goal was the difference between the two teams at the interval.

Croatia were potentially facing elimination at the halfway stage of the game with the Czechs but they were able to salvage the situation thanks to the excellent strike from Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic. His goal at the start of the second half gave his team the first point of the tournament. The Croatians will now need to beat Scotland in their final Group D clash to book their place in the knockout stage of the competition.
